See answer: Toxic shock syndrome can be caused when staph or group a strep get trapped in the vagina, like when using super-absorbent tampons, or cervical caps, sponges, or diaphragms. Always remove birth control methods when instructed. Use the lowest absorbent tampon for periods that works and change at least every 4 -6 hours.
