A member asked:

During a minimally invasive micro discectomy a csf leak occurred & repaired should i have been sent home the same day?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Probably: CSF leak is a not uncommon occurrence during microdiscectomy. When this happens, every effort is made at the time of surgery to repair the dural opening and prevent leakage. If CSF leakage through the incision occurs, this should be resutured, and sometimes a reoperation is necessary. The leak usually doesn't occur for several days, however, so there is no advantage to keeping the patient.
