Depends: If the gallstones are symptomatic, take the gall bladder out. If they were noted incidentally on an x ray but have not caused any pain or obstruction, follow a low fat diet. Meds don't really help and carry a lot of side effects.

Surgery: Incidental gallstones are not harmful in and of themselves, and many americans have them without ever having any issues. However, if they intermittently get stuck and cause pain, or worse, infection, the gall bladder must be removed.
