Both!: There's no doubt: anxiety worsens pain and pain worsens anxiety. The worst are worries about something uncertain -- that can feel like torture. (i hate to say it, but torturers actually use a combination of pain and uncertainty to increase the effect). So, much of what you are feeling is normal, even though very unpleasant. I hope the treatment for your gallstones gets underway soon.

Anxiety makes pain w: An xiety and pain both make each other worse. Anxiety is like holding up a magnifying glass to pain. Pain by itself can great anxiety. Both symptoms need good medical attention and when treated together you will get well the quickest.
