Yes: Increasing anesthesiologists are using spinal anesthesia over general ("putting to sleep"). Nerve blocks behind the knee also have ahad increasing use for ankle and foot procedures. I have also used sedation with localanesthesia for certain ankle arthroscopic procedures at the patient's request or due to medical condition that preclude general or even regional anesthesia.

Get evaluated: This kind of problem could be anything. There are 27 bones in the foot, numerous joints, tendons, ligaments, muscles and nerves. Get a doctor to take a history, do an exam and at least get a plain x-ray.

Local anesthesia: I have performed an ankle arthroscopic procedure under local anesthesia and sedation. The problem is if the surgeon uses an ankle distractor and/or tourniquet which can increase the level of discomfort during the procedure.
