No one way: People are different. A common way eating disorders start is when a person believes they lack control of their lives and controlling food is a way for them to get it back. Dissatisfaction with one's body and trying to control it's shape with restricting food is another way it can start. As a person binges and purges the first time or sees a weight reduction their behavior is reinforced.
