A member asked:

Is it safe to take both effexor (venlafaxine) and amytriptyline?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Under supervision: That is an unusual combination. Sometimes if a patient isn't responding to usual therapies, an ssri will be combined with a tca (like amitrityline) but it must be done with caution because of the risk of serotonin syndrome which can be fatal. Effexor (venlafaxine) is an snri which makes the combination a bit more complicated. It's probably ok if you are treated by a competent psychiatrist who is following yo.
