Xanax (alprazolam): Individual variability exists. Klonopin (clonazepam) has longer half-life.

It acts more quickly: Xanax (alprazolam) is a shorter acting benzodiazepine compared to klonopin. However, it acts more quickly because it crosses the blood brain barrier more quickly and binds with GABA receptors in your nerve cells which dampen activity and create the sense of overall relaxation and calmness. These effects are of short duration.
