Epinephrine and 911: Serious allergic reactions are called anaphylaxis and are medical emergencies. The most effective treatment is Epinephrine (adrenalin) given by injection. If this drug is not immediately available, call 911 as most paramedics will carry epi on their rig. It is important to not hesitate. An antihistamine may not be sufficient to treat a serious allergic reaction.
