Neuralgia: If tight muscles impinge on a nerve, neurological symptoms may occur. Pins and needles sounds like this is your problem. Massage therapy may help. If it doesn't, see a neurologist.

Possible hurt nerve: Nerve damage or neuralgia. Trauma could damage a nerve. Swelling from dental abscess (infection) could damage a nerve. Swelling from oral /throat cancer could damage a nerve. See your dentist asap to evaluate your problem, rule out possible causes and determine the best treatment options.
