Are there better tests for brain damage in high school football players, test where the baseline can not be lowered to hide future concusions?

Pre-injury testing: What is most important is to have a baseline evaluation before injury occurs. Then an acute evaluation at the time of injury needs to be documented. Later evaluations are then compared to the baseline and acute results. Acute injuries must be reported each occurrence. Accumulation of injury is the more serious condition long term.

MRI: Baseline tests such as the impact test are important in following a player prospectively to see their response to concussions. Newer MRI tests may provide a better way to document concussions. There are special MRI scans that detect changes in the white matter fiber tracks. They also detect micro hemorrhages. In the future, as these techniques become accepted, this might be a way to assess concussion.
