Benzoyl peroxide: Many over the counter acne topical creams and lotions are available, check for the ingredients if it has benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid it will work good. Also use soaps which are meant for acne and wash your face 2-3x per day. Use of cosmetics may worsen the acne and use good facial wash to remove the makeup.

Over-the-counter med: Over-the-counter medications for acne are helpful and usually contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. They help kill some acne germs, reduce the amount of dead skin cells plugging pores, and decrease some of the skin oils, to dry the skin somewhat. One should not over-wash, over-scrub, or irritate the skin. Otc acne meds are usually twice a day, but less if the skin gets too dry or irritated.
