Based on side effect: The steroids in epidural steroids have a number of significant side effects. Steroids can lead to an impairment in the immune system, loss of bone mass, and impairment in the bodies ability to manage stress. While the data is sparse on setting a limit, many pain specialists limit epidural steroids to no more than about 3-4 every 6 months, although there is some variation in recommendations.
