Clotting: By the time anyone would answer this, a fresh wound would have already clotted. The body has a complicated and incredibly interesting series of chemical reactions that initiate the clotting process. If the wound is deep, involves a blood vessel, your on an anticoagulant or you have an inherited disorder of blood clotting then a wound will not clot or take a long time to do so.

clot without damage: The simplest and best treatment for any kind of bleeding is compression. While chemicals, and heat are used to cauterize, they also create a lot of tissue damage. There are some fiber products that promote plotting, but they should be reserved for instances of significant or uncontrolled bleeding people in healthy people, simple compression will do the trick with a minimum of complication.
