Sure it's a sprain?: You are asking if a sprain needs care, but you are assuming that you have a sprain. Post traumatic ankle swelling could also be from a fracture of the malleolus, a diastasis of the tibio-fibular syndesmosis, or a fracture of the tibial plafond, any of which could lead to permanent and severe injury if untreated, i.e., if not surgically corrected.
