A member asked:

I felt fraying and tearing down my front chest several months ago, can things such as an aortic dissection, aneurysm etc be diagnosed this late?

Don't worry: Those problems are pretty severe; if the pain is gone now you'll probably never know what it was. The symptoms from aortic problems are usually felt in the back, if that's any reassurance. Do continue to get regular checkups, and mention the issue to your own doctor.

Yes.: Various imaging techniques can readily clarify this issue. See a cardiovascular specialist (cardiologist or cardiothoracic surgeon) for this type of evaluation.

Yes: Don't worry, it is unlikely to be a dissection. But if a dissection s present, a ct scan can diagnose it.
