What could cause a loud cracking sound and a sharp pain in my head?

TMJ: This may be TMJ symptoms. The sound is from the disc in the joint popping back into place as your jaw opens. The pain is from the nerves in the tissue that are stretched and pinched when the disc is pushed out of place.
