Why are my periods so heavy?

Many possibilities: Your profile says you are 44 years of age, so the things that can cause heavy periods for your age include: fibroids (benign tumors of the uterus), polyps of the uterine lining, being overweight, and hormone related changes that result in an imbalance in the ratio of estrogen (too much, which thickens the lining of the uterus) to Progesterone (too little, which works against the estrogen effects).
