A mild acid: A mild acid such as glycolic acid will exfoliate the skin and will help to reduce the color of scars. Other options are hydroquinone and retinol. Low concentration glycolic acid and retinol creams are available over the counter. Stronger peels such as a tca peel or laser resurfacing are done at a doctor's office. You can consult a local dermatologist for a treatment that's appropriate for you.
