Acl tear: If u are comfortable and no neurovascular symptoms u should be fine making an appointment w your local orthopedist. Snag some crutches, ice and take it easy till yr knee can be evaluated.

No, Knee Specialist: I hear time and time again how much a waste of time it is to go to an er for a suspected acl tear. They will x-ray it, give you an immobilizer and crutches along with pain meds and then tell you to go see the md who was on call that night who may not even be an acl specialist. Save your time, ice it, take some meds and research a respected sports medicine orthopedic surgeon and make an appt.
