Yes: Maca, also known as peruvian ginseng (in spite of the fact that it is not a member of the ginseng famil). It is touted as improving ed among many other "virtues". Since it has been used as a "medicinal" food for centuries, it is probably inocuous but it is advertized on the internet in the usual blown up way. No decent research has been done !

Unknown: There are a few known causes like obesity, kidney disease, coarctation of the aorta, renal artery stenosis, pheochromocytoma, adrenal hyperplasia and others - but all together, these account for only a small fraction of all people with htn. For the vast majority, the cause is unknown.

Many problems: Obesity is a common cause, as is renal artery disease. Hormonal excess and glomerular disease can also be causes of high blood pressure. Kidney disease will cause it. In any case hypertension in a young person requires thoughtful examination and investigation of the patient by their phsician.
