Not exactly: It is not so much the blood test is wrong, as it might be too early after infection to show up. Culture only positive if "catches" the organism to grow. There are a couple of types of herpes (hsv1/hsv2) as well. Usual to repeat blood work after 3-6 months if equivocal results.
