Dr. Pam Yoder answered

Yes: Any device that produces heat has a chance to malfunction. Overheating can place both mom and baby at risk. The temperature of the fetus runs higher than that of the mother, and that places demands on the heart. Plus there have been burns or shocks caused by electric blankets. The same can happen with heating pads if moms fall asleep while using them. So it's best for women to avoid them all.
