Food allergy: Any food allergy usually manifests as hives, skin swelling, abdominal cramps, throat closing and occasionally low blood pressure and anaphylactic shock. If you have cramps and diarrhea only you may be lactose intolerant and it is not an allergy.

Annatto?: Since you mentioned cheese specifically, one of the more recent causes of allergy to yellow processed cheese products is annatto. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annatto) This natural yellow orange dye is being added more and more to replace artificial colors in cheese. Patient's can develop an allergy to this dye and experience symptoms to only some yellow cheeses or cheese products.
