Depo provera (medroxyprogesterone): Take a pregnancy test if you are concerned about the possibility of pregnancy. However, the most common side effect of Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) is irregular bleeding. Most other side effects also tend to become less of a problem over time. Frequency of irregular bleeding tends to diminish with each subsequent injection. Overall, Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) is safer and more effective than birth control pills. Call your md.
