normal variant: A standard urinary tract has 1 collecting system and 1 ureter per kidney. Some systems may have 2 collecting systems and 2 complete ureters per kidney (complete duplication) or 2 upper ureters connecting to 1 ureter per kidney (a partial duplication). These are normal variants but can be associated with urinary reflux or obstruction, which can, in turn, be associated with utis.
