Years and >50%: It takes years for a coronary artery plaque to develop fully. Some studies have detected the start of development of coronary artery disease {cad} in infancy. A significant plaque starts at 50%. The higher the percent stenosis, the more significant the plaque. In reality, a plaque may become significant with a lower percent stenosis if you exhibit symptoms associated with the area of stenosis.

Generally years: From our youth we may begin to develop plaque. Mostly this is asymptomatic until low is slowed by > 50% diameter narrowing the last step, may be a ruptured plaque or acute thrombosis in a matter of seconds.
