Viral or bacterial?: Good morning, it is likely you are developing a bacterial or viral infection that might have triggered a chocking episode to start with, depending on what you consider a chocking episode if it was a blockage of airway from some food, and it was expelled after a strong cough spell, it is possible that there was some trauma to the lining of the pharynx, causing the scratchy throat. EDIT. I was taking a nap and woke up gasping for air. Throat is pretty soar, I felt like a choking sensation, or more like I cant breathe but I do remember I was struggling to breathe. I was lightheaded and just laid down. X-ray & bloodwork normal?
