Get checked : I'm assuming she was previously productive and healthy. These can be due to a neurologic condition or new issue like stroke. She needs to be evaluated immediately.

Sudden confusion: The symptoms you describe could represent delirium due to an acute medical problem. It is also possible that there is an underlying dementia or other brain illness. It sounds like an evaluation by your mom's doctor is in order.
