Spotting: no period: Periods begin to be irregular in mid-30's, b/c the ovaries take more stimulation to actually ovulate, which delays the onset of the next menstrual event. The "spotting" may simply be reflective of the drop in estrogen just prior to ovulation, which can produce withdrawal bleeding if the estrogen level is high enough just prior to ovulation. See your gyn provider if this persists.
