A member asked:

Can sleeping with contacts in make the whites of your eyes start to turn yellow?

No: Sleeping with your contacts does not color the white part of your eye (sclera). But sleeping with your contacts in can put you at tremendous risk for overwhelming eye infections which can devastate the vision. So whether it be for cosmetic concerns or the overall health of the eye, it is a good idea to not sleep in contacts.

No: The whites of the eyes may appear less white if you over-wear contacts. This occurs when the lenses starve the eye of oxygen and irritate the surface skin. Microscopic blood vessels become inflamed and the eye looks less white. Natural yellowing of the eyes usually occurs with age and is not affected by contact lens wear, except as mentioned above.
