Yes but not typical: Asthmatic attacks often start with a cough but usually progress to a tightness in the chest and wheezing. Usually respond to using an inhaler with brochdilator, inhaled steroid or both.

Cough: There is a type of asthma called "cough variant asthma". It's about 10% of asthma cases. Symptoms usually predominantly cough.
