Allergist: To determine if you have asthma it would be best to see an allergist. While pulmonary function testing can help in making the diagnosis, many patients with asthma actually have normal pft's. The diagnosis is often make based on the history and the patient's response to treatment. Skin testing may also help in finding the triggers for the symptoms of coughing and/or wheezing.
