What is sesamoiditis and how is it treated?

Inflammed bone: Sesamoiditis is an inflammatory process of the small bone(s) under the first metatarsal head. Because these bones are small and subject to a lot of force with each step, these can be stubborn and painful afflictions to live with. Antiinflammatories, injections, offloading (with padding, orthoses) crutches and nonweightbearing, and even surgery can be necessary to resolve this.
