Second opinion: While a normal physical exam is reassuring, there are many causes of pain during sex. Pain during entry can be caused by an infection, vestibulitis, abnormal muscle tone to the vagina, or inadequate lubrication. Pain later on may be caused by inadequate arousal (which lubricates the vagina and causes lengthening of the vaginal cylinder). Adequate foreplay, lubrication, and positioning may help.
