Get tested.: Painful swallowing and a swollen throat can be a symptom of strep or mono. Usually, strep will have fever and headache along with sore throat - but not many other symptoms. Strep should be treated to prevent later developments like heart valve or kidney problems. Sometimes symptoms can be quite mild. Good luck.
