The upper jaw.: You have an upper jaw and a lower jaw. The lower jaw is called the mandible and the upper jaw is called the maxilla. The upper jaw is connected to multiple different bones that support the face. So the maxillary process is describing the support and connections to the palate, zygoma (cheek bones), the nose and the sinuses.
