For your baby, I : I asked the pediatric cardiologists for answers. Tour the hospital ward before admission. Ask the nurses how to pump & store breast milk, sterilize blankets, stuffed animals & toys brought from home, & set up your sleep accommodations. Her doctors will explain benefits vs. Risks of the procedure & anesthesia, your waiting time & place, how to care for the incision & when to see them post-op.

See detailed Answer: The infant needs to be admitted to hospital by pediatrician, and evaluated by anesthesia, pediatri cardiothoracic surgeon. The actual surgery is about 1/2 hour, but anesthesia, and recovery may take more than an hour.

Depends: Pdas can be treated in the cath lab or with surgery. You only need to prepare but not allowing your child to eat or drink the night before the procedure. Both are safe but cath is slightly less invasive (but not always possible). Please discuss the specific options with your child's cardiologist.

It is complicated: Prior to the procedure. your baby will not be able to have any solid food for 8 hours, breastmilk/formula for 6 hours, or any clear liquid for 2 hours. She will be given a medicine to lightly sedate her, and the doctors will insert a catheter usually in her arm or groin to access the PDA and plug it. Sometimes it is done surgically instead of via a catheter. The time varies from 1hr to few hours.

Simple: procedure. Takes about an hour with anesthesia. Need to see a pediatric cardiologist and pediatric cardiac surgeon or pediatric surgeon who does thoracic surgery as way of preparation and getting all your questions answered prior to surgical repair.
