Immune response: Rheumatic fever, a streptococcal infection causes the body to be "tricked" into producing an immune response to the body, in other words there is a cross reactivity of immune defenses whereby the cells responsible for immunity start to attack the body itself, and in this case major joints that result in what we call arthritis. It is nothing to take lightly and must be fought with antibiotics.
