The reason i want to know if folic acid is the same as iron is because i am going to have gastric bypass.

No it isn't. : Folic acid is involved in proper red blood cell formation and dna formation. Iron is involved in hemoglobin and is also important for red blood cells. Both need to be taken as supplements after the gastric bypass.
