Lidocaine ointment: As long as you apply the ointment as prescribed and avoid other medications that contain similar types (caines) of local anesthetics it would be difficult to reach toxic blood levels of lidocaine. We often use a multimodal approach to pain control in order to maximize results and minimize side effects. Adding oral, non local anesthetic pain medications will help accomplish this.
