Best Books for baby: Content is not as important as taking the time to sit and read to your baby. As little infants they don't care if it is war & peace or the "how to install a drain manual" - they just want to hear your voice and be by you. Later in the first year, picture books where the two of you can be interactive - "where's the dog, let's point to it, what does doggy say" are great to keep their interest.

ALL OF THEM!: You could probably read your baby the newspaper and he/she would still enjoy it! reading to young infants involves closeness, voice patterns, comfort and models a respect for reading which will last their entire lives. Babies love short rhyming books and love to have the same books read over and over! pick what you like, then go from there.
