Yes: Any time something is stuck in the throat and the person feels that this may need the er, it is a wise idea to be checked out. If a person swallowed the pill and it went down the food pipe, you would feel like something is stuck in your lower chest, not the throat. Go now, don't wait till the difficulty with breathing starts!

Not yet: It depends. What kind of pill was it? Bisphosphonate impaction requires prompt treatment. Other pills do not require urgent evaluation. We see this phenomenon fairly frequently. Usually the pill has passed, but the event has irritated the area, and the patient feels it for a few hours to days. Gerd treatment may help facilitate the healing process.
