Time for a change: It is time for you to discuss with your prescriber (ideally a gynecologist) that your medicine is not controlling your cycle. That is one of the functions of the usual 28-30 pill birth control packs. So, over time, your personal need for the hormones it contains may have shifted, so this is no longer working as desired.

Not necessarily: Sometimes when you've been on the pill for awhile, the lining of your uterus gets thin and spotting can occur. Missed pills are another common cause. There are also other causes of irregular bleeding: polyps, fibroids, stis.
