ADD vs ADHD: The h is the difference. Hyperactivity , often over represented in boys, may require the addition of an nonstimulant to the regimen. These meds, such as Guanfacine or clonidine, act to " bring the rpms down" in the emotional engine. These meds work through Alpha adrenergic brain receptors to cool off the intensity of motor activity while the stimulant holds the attentional focus.

Medication works : For both, because the underlying neurobiological and neurochemical basis is the same for both. Add is now called adhd-primarily inattentive type. Adhd-primarily hyperactive/impulsive type is seen in younger children. Children with adhd-combined type are more commonly referred for treatment, as the hyperactive/impulsive symptoms draw attention. See chadd.Org for full explanation.

NO DIFFERENCE : It is a classification and terminology issue. Presently adhd is correct diagnosis there are 3 subtypes..Add could be considered as adhd without hyperactivity.
