A member asked:

My grandmother (85) collects a lot of saliva in her mouth, does not know where it comes from, what could be the cause for this?

Excessive saliva: You should make sure you let her primary care physician know or her dentist. If she recently got dentures this could be a cause of excessive saliva. This will get better with time. You will just have to make sure she has a towel or cup handy until it gets better. She may need to have her medications reviewed by her doctor or her dentures adjusted.

Salivary Glands: Saliva is excreted by her salivary glands. She may not have excess saliva, she just may not be swallowing what is excreted. Does she wear dentures? Taking medications? Some things do discuss with her physician.
