Macular degeneration: This is a condition where the eye has difficulty removing used material from the receptors in the film layer of the eye (retina). Over time, clumps of this material (drusen) damage the retina and lead to decreased central vision. As well, new blood vessels can be stimulated to grow through the retina, and may bleed, causing quick and severe vision loss.
