Same thing: A cavity is a hole. Many refer to a cavity as if it were the cause of the hole. What they really mean is decay or caries. These cause the hole or cavity. If we have decay in our mouth from caries, we tend to just call it a cavity, whether it is very small and just starting, or very large and collecting food.
