Get an xray: Go see your family doc to order for an xray of the wrist. He may set the wrist in a cast and refer you to a specialist (ortho hand specialist) for a f/u visit.

Exam and xrays: Typically, there is a history of a fall or other trauma to the wrist. This can result in pain over the injured bone and a fracture. A good clinical exam by a skilled specialist (orthopaedic surgeon) is helpful but xrays are required to make a definitive diagnosis.
