A member asked:

Can you get ards from smoking?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Smoking predisposes to many chronic lung, heart, and blood vessel complications and smoking-related lung disease such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis make individuals more susceptible to lung infections such as pneumonia. The chronic lung diseases increase the risk for acute lung diseases but not ARDS per se.
